Stein said her organization had been receiving calls about the woman driving around the Bronx with dogs in her auto.

Emergency personnel took the dogs’ owner, 54, to Montefiore Medical Center for evaluation, cops said.

It was a dog day afternoon for almost two dozen pups trapped in a hot vehicle in The Bronx. Members of the organization reached out and asked if the woman wanted free vet care and food for the animals, but she declined, Stein said.

‘She had the German shepherd kind of crated really to the back and the rest of them were just loose all over the place, ‘ Regina Galente of the group told NBC New York.

Stein said the dogs are now making a speedy recovery. ‘It’s awesome how quickly they rebound when they realize they’re safe.

All of the dogs are expected to survive, but they’re still in need of homes.

But the puppies are all alive and growing stronger, watched over by the German shepherd, Bruno.

The police have not arrested the previous owner of the dogs, and now don’t plan to press charges. He cried for everyone that we were handling. He was like the papa bear to all of them, ‘ said Galente.
