The bitter cold temperatures expected Sunday could tie the record low for 2016.

Temperatures will then drift downward the rest of night, reaching zero degrees at about 2 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
Looks like Valentine’s Day in the Chicago area will be a cold and snowy one.
During the winter months, wind chill is very important on windy days because it allows the surface of the skin to cool more efficiently.
Wind chills in this cold can bring on frostbite in as little as 10 minutes, the NWS said, so outdoor exposure should be limited.
While the wind chills are expected to ease by late Sunday morning, the next patch of rough weather is expected Monday, with snow and sleet likely. Northwest winds are expected in the 9-to-14-mph range, with gusts as high as 24 miles per hour. That’s when the weather service warns that wind chills will drop to “dangerous levels”, as low as 10 to 20 degrees below zero. Expect sunny skies and highs near 20 degrees.
Saturday: Highs in the single digits, but dangerously cold with the wind chill, which could make it feel as cold as minus 35. Tree limbs and with them, power lines, may be damaged by the gusts, according to the weather service. Too early for specifics, but some snow is possible early next week. Actual temperatures will only be in the teens and with winds gusting over 40MPH at times, wind chills will be in the negative teens to negative 20s. The cold temperatures will peak at 7 a.m. The most likely areas to receive an additional 1-3 inches of snow will extend from southwest Virgina east-southeastward across central Virginia and northwest North Carolina. “The system may produce significant wintry precipitation Monday night into early Tuesday morning”.
