NYPD arrest man trying to climb Trump Tower

Personnel from the New York Police Department had to undertake elaborate safety measures as well as some extreme steps like breaking some windows in the Tower to pull the man inside the building.

A man equipped with suction cups and climbing gear was safely snatched into the Trump Tower in mid-town Manhatten, New York on August 10, 2016 after almost a three-hour standoff with the police.

Authorities hang outside the window as the climber scales the side of the glass skyscraper in NY. The man reached the 21st story of the 58-story tower on Fifth Avenue which is Trump’s headquarters for his presidential campaign. Trump also lives there, though he was in Virginia in the afternoon and was headed to Florida for an evening event.

The Virgina native was first seen by the building around 3:40 p.m.by police as he used suction cups and a harness to climb the tower from the 5th-floor atrium.

Police attempted to talk to the man, and busted glass windows as they tried to coax him to safety. Initially, it was not known why he was doing this, but it later came to be light that the man wanted to meet the Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump.

Trump wasn’t in his glass tower on Wednesday, but the stunt certainly got the attention of the American public. “I guarantee that it’s in your interest to honor this request”, he said.

Trump later tweeted his support for police responding to the incident.

“Steve” was removed from the building on a stretcher. Police also lowered themselves toward the man using a window washer’s platform.

“Hello Mr. Trump. Excuse my matter of appearance, I just don’t know how many people will watch this and I’d rather not be recognizable”.

The climber however continued to elude authorities by methodically working his way across the facade and angled corners of the building. Believe me, if my goal wasn’t significant, I wouldn’t have risked my life pursuing it. While ABC News has not confirmed that the man in the video is the climber, a high ranking police source tells us there is “no reason to believe it’s not him”.

Trump was not in the building at the time the man climbed it. “He’s caused the shutdown of traffic on Fifth Avenue”, said the statement. I’m 100% certain the NYPD had better things to do.

The climber shifted his route several times in what appeared to be an attempt to get around the police.
