New Zealand Police Recruitment sent the internet into a frenzy with a video of their performance, before extending a challenge to colleagues around the world.

The Running Man Challenge asks others to top their dance routine with their own and then post it online.

The latest to join the challenge is Northern Territory Police who posted the video on Facebook dancing next to a 4-metre saltwater crocodile.

This led to the NYPD getting involved and nominating Police Scotland – who released a video of officers strutting their stuff in front of a bagpiper at Edinburgh Castle.

In the video eight police officers in uniform dance in a basement auto park.

They have since challenged police forces in Singapore, New Orleans and Berlin.

The dance is soundtracked by the 1996 song My Boo by the Ghost Town DJs, which has started to reappear in the charts again two decades later.

In just three hours after being uploaded to the Facebook page, the video has already gained more than 52,000 views.

The hilarious clip ends with the officers once again breaking into the “running man” dance and coming towards the camera with big smiles on their faces.

The star of the New Zealand police running man video, Sergeant Sonny Iosefo, said the whole concept showed “the new school how the old school does it”.

Lots of other forces are considering it, however, the Isles of Scilly police will not be following suit.

In a post to Facebook the NT Police commented on their obvious omission from the challenge and said: ‘Hey NZ Police Recruitment GAME ON!’

He went on: “Our combined age on this small rock in the Atlantic (including feline years) is over 300”.
