NYSE blames three-hour outage on bad software upgrade
Previously had been reported even by problems in the USA airline United Airlines, whose Flugzeuge had to stay because of a computer error at the bottom.

The New York Stock Exchange shut down due to technical problems for hours on July 8. And then by 11:32 a.m., traders were still noticing “unusual system behavior” leading the NYSE to suspend trading on the floor of the stock exchange.
Officials and the exchange have said that there is no indication that the problem is the result of a cyber-attack. Officials said it was the “most significant outage” since the Nasdaq “Flash Freeze” in August 2013. Later came extra exchanges, like ones run by BATS Global Markets, and “dark pools”, or trading platforms that permit buyers to acquire and sell in significant quantities without alerting the broader industry.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday said that it was closely monitoring the situation at the exchange. The exchange did say, however, its trouble was not due to a cyber breach.
Now, stocks can be traded at some 60 exchanges and trading venues.
“It’s disruptive, but not wildly disruptive”, said Caldwell, chairman of Caldwell Securities.
In the 1970s, Nasdaq, an electronic exchange, started competing against the NYSE. The NYSE, it turns out, only handles about 14 percent of the daily volume of stocks traded in the United States.
Wall Street cheered a huge rebound in China, which is scrambling to put a bottom under its crashing stock market. “NYSE-listed securities continue to trade unaffected on other market centers”. The Dow was down 175 points (about 1%) around the time of the halt. The Nasdaq composite rose 12.64, or 0.3 percent, to 4,922.40.
The trading halt came in the middle of a selloff in USA stocks that was fuelled by concerns over Greece’s uncertainty.
The IntercontinentalExchange Group, which bought NYSE Euronext in late 2012, is down 1.7 percent. NYSE accounted for about 13.4 per cent of USA stocks last month.
The Dow ended up 33 points on the day, but that represents a disappointment considering it was almost 250 points in the green shortly after the opening bell.
Before the market opened at 9:30 a.m., the gateways were updated with the correct version of the software.
A technical issue has triggered a system-wide halt.

After installing new software before markets opened Thursday, the exchange began hearing about connectivity issues between customers and the trading units that had been upgraded.
