O’Brien says there’s “decent” chance JJ Watt plays in Week 1
The Houston Texans moved three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt back to their active roster on Saturday, and are reportedly expected to play their star defensive end in the team’s regular season opener against the Chicago Bears on September 11.

J.J. Watt will play in the Houston Texans’ season opener against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Watt is expected to play in next Sunday’s regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears, a league source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Watt underwent back surgery in late July and his status for Week 1 seemed iffy through August. While it’s unclear how many snaps Watt will be able to handle immediately upon his return, the Texans will definitely be glad to have him back in the fold in any capacity. Neither player participated in training camp or played in any of the Texans preseason games. “Then, from there, it’s just about how are they reacting to whatever their injury was, how is that playing out in practice?” The Texans announced that Watt passed his physical over the weekend, clearing the way for him to return to practice with the team.
