O’Malley qualifies to participate in NBC Democratic debate

In December, Bernie Sanders told WMUR, “I think there is a desire on the part of the leadership of the DNC to protect Secretary Clinton”, pointing out the November 14 debate was the same day as a big college football game.

To qualify, candidates needed to reach an average of 5 percent in recent national polls or those in the early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire or SC before Thursday.

Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley will be center stage in Charleston at 9 p.m. Now, because his poll numbers are not on par with Hillary and Sanders, who have been given the lion’s share of airtime, O’Malley may be further shut out of the political conversation as the first caucuses and primaries loom.

O’Malley’s proposals may prove popular with Democratic primary voters and the unions that help bring those voters to the polls, but it’s not likely that numerous ideas would go anywhere in a Republican-controlled Congress skeptical of new businesses regulations. The debate comes just three days after the GOP presidential contenders held their own debate in nearby North Charleston. “NBC notes that the official hashtag for the event is “#DemDebate” so Internet users can keep track or contribute to social commentary.
