391 in day games this year (36/92) but just. The teams then split a doubleheader in Baltimore on May 28.

“This is why this game is so hard”, Jimenez said.

Jimenez (7-4) made one mistake, a third-inning homer to Jose Abreu on an 0-2 fastball. He now stands at 7-3 on the year with a 3.09 ERA, the second-best on the Orioles rotation, behind only Wei-Yin Chen.

Starting for the O’s tonight is Ubaldo Jimenez.

Danks’ night was impressive considering what he’d done the prior month.

John Danks, meanwhile, was as bad in June as Jimenez was good. Danks induced double-play grounders in the first and third innings to kill potential rallies and also worked out of jams in the fifth and seventh, each time allowing two runners to reach base before closing the door. 143 (4 for 28) in his past eight. Danks had just one win in his previous seven outings.

Somehow, that was all the runs Danks needed. Nolan Reimold is hitting. While Friday would regularly be Wieters’ off day, Buck Showalter could put him in the lineup as the designated hitter because of that statistic. Will John Danks continue the losing ways that plagued him in June?

When they are outhit, the Orioles are 5-25.

In Saturday’s contest, the Orioles will send Chris Tillman to the mound to face Jeff Samardzija. In his last start against the Orioles he gave up eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits in five innings. He is now 6-7 on the year, and hasn’t lost since May 31.

Chicago White Sox’s Jose Abreu (79) celebrates with teammate Melky Cabrera after hitting a solo home run during the third inning of a baseball game against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, July 3, 2015, in Chicago.

Danks and Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez each went seven innings and only allowed one run between them. “It was coming out of his hand pretty nice”. Last week, my column mentioned the possibility that the Orioles could land the 2014 All-Star. Manny Machado (.302, 51 Rs, 16 HRs, 44 RBIs, 11 SBs) went 1 for 4 yesterday. But he pitched seven scoreless innings Friday.

For Sunday’s series finale, Miguel Gonzalez of the Orioles will oppose rookie Carlos Rodon of the White Sox.

The Orioles have now gone 19 consecutive innings without scoring a run, dating to the seventh inning of their 4-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.

Abreu opened up a long stretch in Chicago for the Sox with a homer that US Cellular Field affords.

Carlos Rodon is 3-1 on the season with a 4.07 ERA in nine starts.

Ranking 27th in home runs, Chicago has hit 57 this season. But the Orioles couldn’t take advantage, as Danks struck out Caleb Joseph swinging on a slow 75-mph curveball and Ryan Flaherty flied out to left to strand runners at second and third.

Baltimore (42-38) came into the game tied for first in the AL East and lost a second game in a row. That’s really all there was to the White Sox’ third straight victory.
