A 20-year-old man will be charged with murder for the fatal shooting of an artist working on a community mural project in West Oakland in September, Alameda County prosecutors said today.

Ramos “was painting the mural and had taken a break and was taking some pictures so he could memorialize it and kind of put it up on a website”, Holmgren said.

Police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said the name of the man detained will be released once the case has been formally charged.

Police have not issued a motive for the seemingly random shooting.

Police said they have also recovered the gun used to kill Ramos, which has been confirmed by ballistics tests.

Holloway was arrested Friday at his mother’s house in Stockton, which U.S. Marshals had been staking out in hopes that he would show up.

Holmgren says the release of a video and still photo of Holloway last month brought in numerous tips that helped lead to the arrest. Leano Rice, Antonio Ramos’ older brother told the crowd as he stood in front of the mural.

Officials said the artists were working on the Oakland Super Heroes Mural Project, which was being organized by ArtEsteem, the art and literacy arm of Attitudinal Healing Connection, a West Oakland Group that seeks to stop violence by inspiring people with art and education.
