Oakland: Person walking on freeway fatally hit by auto
CHP officials received a call at 11:57 a.m. reporting a vehicle down an embankment of southbound state Highway 35 south of Alpine Road in unincorporated San Mateo County.

CHP Officer Art Montiel said it appears the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed on the wet roadway when the auto veered off the road and crashed into the tree.
CHP said Ramirez is facing felony DUI charges, causing injury and possession of a controlled substance.
The involved vehicles blocked the no. 2 and 3 lanes, and the CHP blocked the no. 1 lane to clear out the scene.
The name of the person hit, believed to be a man, was not released pending notification of relatives. CHP said the crash is still under investigation.

Fire officials initially said as many as seven people had been taken to the hospital. He said no abandoned vehicles were found in the area.
