Obama Admin Gearing Up to Raid and Deport Illegal Families
Leaders of the church-based Sanctuary Movement vowed on Friday to offer their places of worship as refuge for immigrants facing deportation under an Obama administration crackdown on Central American families who entered the United States illegally. It is being reported that children and adults who have been ordered removed from the United States will be the targets of the raids.

In a statement last week, ICE spokeswoman Gillian Christensen would not comment on the Post story but said that as part of civil enforcement priorities announced by DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson in November 2014, the agency will focus on individuals “who pose a threat to national security, public safety and border security”.

Last week, CHANNEL 5 NEWS reported that the Department of Homeland Security is planning nationwide raids. Officials said many of those orders of removal could be in response to those illegal immigrants not showing up for their immigration hearings.
The reports come amid a toxic political climate around immigration that is playing out in the presidential race, and heightened concern over federal policies in accepting asylum-seekers and refugees, primarily from Syria.
An anti-human tracking law enacted in 2008 prohibits undocumented children originating from Central America from being pushed back. Most of the families were made up of women and their children.
News of the coming raids leaked via the Washington Post just two days before Christmas.
“From that perspective, it’s a very frightening situation for individuals who are still waiting out there”, said Goldman.

A network of congregations are “preparing themselves as we speak to open their doors for sanctuary if the administration moves forward with their plan”, Andersen said.
