Obama administration defends refugee screening process

To support their position, Johnson and Kerry outlined the detailed process used for vetting refugees, including interviews by a United Nations agency, the State Department, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Biden went on and said that another layer of security checks have been instituted.

“Secretary Kerry’s letter tells us nothing we didn’t already know”, Pence spokesman Matt Lloyd said Saturday. His administration tried to convince U.S. House members that the refugee screening process was sufficient, and Obama began entertaining a U.S. Senate proposal to deny visa waivers to recent visitors to Iraq and Syria.

Tom Carper, D-Del., took a more measured, and, we believe, logical approach. “I really do. I don’t dismiss the fear of a terrorist’s bomb going off. There’s nothing President Obama and I take more seriously though than keeping the American people safe”, Biden said emphatically.

USA governors’ calls to stem the flow of Syrian refugees into the country may not improve security and has chilled the atmosphere for such immigrants, a MA congressmen and activists said after a Tuesday roundtable with law enforcement.

A new poll from The Washington Post and ABC News shows that a majority of Americans oppose resettling Syrian refugees in the United States. However, the fact that at least one of the Paris attackers slipped through security raises doubts about how effective our own processes are. Most refugees are referred by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and later in the process interface with the United States Citizenship Immigration Services, a unit within the Department of Homeland Security whose officers are employed to conduct in-person interviews to determine if the individual qualifies as a refugee.

“The idea that somehow [refugees] pose a more significant threat than all the tourists who pour into the US every single day just doesn’t jive with reality”, Obama stated in a speech Thursday. Moreover, half of the Syrian refugees accepted into the United States have been children, and a quarter of those accepted are over 60 years old.

As to the question of whether the governors have the authority to do so, Deal gave this answer: “I think we do”.

In no uncertain terms, President Obama promised to destroy the Islamic State. Even France, the one country which would be expected to have anti-refugee sentiments, has announced that they will accept 30,000 refugees, up from their earlier quota of 24,000, over the next two years.

On the other side, Obama has threatened to veto this legislation and furthermore pledged to accept 10,000 refugees in the next year.

States such as Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas are now refusing to accept Syrian refugees for resettlement.

“The US resettlement system includes the most rigorous vetting process applied to any population coming to this country”, wrote Meissner and Ziglar, who served under Democratic and Republican presidents, in today’s letter.
