Obama appeals to Supreme Court over his immigration plan
President Barack Obama’s administration on Tuesday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold measures shielding around four million undocumented migrants from deportation.

On Tuesday in Los Angeles, immigrants who’d hoped the court might rule differently said they felt stung.
The complaint said the actions will lead to an increase in human trafficking, a new wave of undocumented immigration, and force them to spend money on public services.
The challenge was brought by Texas and 25 other states and the opponents of Obama’s executive actions welcomed the decision. “This is a win for the checks and balances established by the Constitution”, Grassley said. Appeals over the injunction might take months.
Justices typically stop accepting cases in mid-January for the current term. If they kick it to the next term, though, the earliest it will come under review is next October.
The Obama administration argued that’s how it would roll out this program, but the court dismissed that argument.
It means that a Federal judge in Texas, who enjoined the president, signed an order preventing the president from implementing his executive order which effectively changed the immigration laws.
What we’re talking about is actually two immigration plans: Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA), and Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
The group is sometimes called DREAMers after taking the acronym from an immigration bill.
The USA government will appeal a court decision that found protecting undocumented parents from deportation is unconstitutional. The plan would allow illegal crossers to apply for work permits.
It acknowledged that an adverse ruling would discourage potential beneficiaries of DAPA from cooperating with law enforcement authorities or paying taxes. DACA protects immigrants if they were brought into the country illegally as children.
[Judge] Smith said the Immigration and Naturalization Act simply doesn’t confer the power the administration is claiming. There are about 11.3 million aliens who could be deported from the US today; however, Congress had only provided the DHS with resources to process the removal of about 400,000 aliens each year.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott spiked the football in President Obama’s face after a court ruled against his illegal amnesty order. Republican presidential candidates have said they would dismantle the program, adding urgency to the administration’s efforts to get it started.
“We strongly disagree with the Fifth Circuit’s decision”.

Regardless of whether the Supreme Court takes up the case before then, it is sure to become a major point of contention during the 2016 election campaign.
