Obama attacks Trump over ban on Muslims

The move sparked protests around the country, and raised questions about what it would mean for U.S. businesses and foreign-born workers.

There were numerous reports of large delays which caused problems, and hand-wringing in the U.S. media over the issue.

The order does not address homegrown extremists already in America, a primary concern of federal law enforcement officials. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly issued a statement Sunday saying that, absent information indicating a serious threat to public safety and welfare, citizens of the seven countries who hold permanent USA residency “green cards” will not be barred as officials had previously said.

Delta Airlines did report a computer problem that forced the cancellation of more than 150 flights on Sunday.

The Philadelphia marchers joined many across the nation, as thousands of protesters swarmed airports in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and elsewhere.

Representatives Jerrold Nadler and Nydia Velazquez, both Democrats from NY, wanted clarification on whether an immigration ban issued on Friday by President Donald Trump prevented the Iraqis from consulting with attorneys. The Department of Homeland Security said Sunday the court ruling would not affect overall implementation of the White House order.

“We believe in assisting all those who are vulnerable and fleeing persecution, regardless of their religion”, Bishop Joe S. Vsquez of Austin, Texas, said in the statement. But that year, 618 Iraqis were allowed to enter the USA with that special visa.

“If there are cases where an individual has not yet gotten to the United States, but was scheduled to come for an H-1B visa, that comes at a large cost to companies”.

Mana Yegani, an immigration lawyer in Houston, who works with the American Immigration Lawyers Association, said Customs and Border Patrol agents at many airports were unaware of the executive order early on Friday evening.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister said: “Immigration policy in the United States is a matter for the government of the United States, just the same as immigration policy for this country should be set by our government”.

Without mentioned the immigration ban directly, François Hollande has urged Europe to stand up to Mr Trump’s administration, which he said is encouraging “populism and even extremism”.

Doing so is also in keeping with United Nations policy citing religious persecution to determine refugee status, Ms. Shea said.

Defenders of the order, however, say the bill does not target all Muslims, or all Muslim-majority countries – just countries known to be on a terror watch-list. But he’s also being misleading.

The order signed by Trump on Friday puts in place a 120-day hold on entry of refugees to the USA, and indefinitely suspends the admission of Syrian refugees until the president is satisfied that changes have been made. Many people were affected, including green card holders and those with visas.

Is it a “Muslim ban”? .

“And what we did was we focused on, instead of religion, danger”, Giuliani said.

Conservative MP for North East Somerset Jacob Rees-Mogg echoed President Trump’s words by asking: “Where were the complaints when Barack Obama banned Iraqi refugees for six months?” while being interviewed by Matt Frei on Channel 4 News on Monday evening. “A lot of bad “dudes” out there!” he tweeted.

THE FACTS: The immigration system doesn’t allow the kind of “rush” Trump is describing.

Under Trump’s order, it had appeared that an untold number of foreign-born US residents now traveling outside the USA could be stuck overseas for at least 90 days even though they held permanent residency “green cards” or other visas.

“I want to start with the executive order that President Trump signed into law on Friday”.

And the USA can always stop a foreigner from boarding a US -bound flight or cancel a visa upon someone’s arrival. Sending them back would violate their rights to “due process and equal protection under the U.S. Constitution”, plus subject them to “substantial and irreparable injury”, Donnelly wrote.
