Obama calls on Russia to focus on Islamic State group

The president said he is confident that the US and its partners would ultimately destroy the Islamic State, which has shown an ability to strike targets far beyond its base in Syria and Iraq.

“The Islamic State has become more entrenched, in part due to the irresponsible policy of the U.S. Rather than cooperating on the fight against terrorism, America and its allies began fighting the legitimately elected president of Syria, Bashar Assad”, Medvedev’s Twitter post says.

The Russians appear more enthused.

French President Francois Hollande this week possesses more power than anyone else in the world, because he will be the key decision-maker shaping the future world-order when he meets separately on Tuesday and Thursday privately with the two men – American President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin – who stand on opposite sides in the great decades-long subterranean war that the US aristocracy have been waging to win control over Russia and its vast natural resources such as oil, gas, timber, and crucial rare-earth minerals.

A spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition, which conducts some operations near Erbil airport, said he was not aware of the cause for the shutdown. “But for now that is not enough to cleanse Syria of rebels and terrorists and to protect Russians from possible terrorist attacks”. The group claimed responsibility for blowing a Russian passenger jet out of the sky over Egypt, killing 224 people.

“Our objectives are being fulfilled and fulfilled well”, he said, according to the RIA Novosti news agency.

“It sounds very nice theoretically”, says Angela Stent, director of the Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies at Georgetown University.

Jerusalem-Russia has sent ground forces into battle for the first time in Syria, according to Kuwait daily, al-Rai.

“Aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces have made 141 sorties and delivered airstrikes on 472 terrorist facilities in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Idlib, Latakia, Hama, Homs, Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor”, he said. It did not say when the troops went into action and there was no mention of casualties.

The president added that despite suggestions that he’s been getting sugarcoated versions of events, “it’s not as if I’ve been receiving wonderfully rosy, glowing portraits of what’s been happening in Iraq and Syria” over the past 18 months. If Putin crafts a co-operative military relationship with the West, that influence will increase.

Over the border in Iraq, Turkmen regions in the north have also been subjected to recent fighting, even though the Islamic State has been pushed out. (She didn’t want her name published because she has family in Syria.) “Daesh exists because Assad exists, and Assad exists because Daesh exists”. The two countries most affected are France and Russian Federation which lost an airliner over Sinai to a terrorist bomb earlier in the month – there is “alliance” but already fault lines are beginning to develop in the relationship.
