Obama cites sacrifices made by fallen firefighters

The president offered condolences to the families of the 87 firefighters who have died in recent months.

“That’s nearly everything that legally owe all of you”, Obama said.

Inclement weather has forced the 34th annual National Fallen Firefighters memorial service to move to Mount St. Mary’s University Sunday morning.

The president thanked the nation’s firefighters for their courage, particularly during challenging times such as wildfire season in the west.

Among those firefighters remembered today, Baltimore City Fire Lt. James Bethea, who was killed in November of previous year battling a fire.

The names of each of the firefighters who were honored Sunday were carved into a plaque which will be displayed at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

The Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service in Eau Claire began in 1992, and we continue to recognize and remember those who have fallen and their families.
