Obama: Climate talks should include ‘legally binding’ mechanism

“One of the things that you find is when you’re in this job, you think about it differently than when you’re just running for the job”, Obama told reporters at a climate change summit in Paris.

More than 40,000 delegates are in the French capital tussling over the details of a draft agreement that will include all countries in the fight against climate change.

“Though Africa is not responsible for emitting greenhouse gases, it is suffering the consequences of climate change”, Mr Hollande said.

The UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon today met with President John Mahama and four other African Heads of State on the margins of the Climate Change Conference of the Parties, COP 21.

Negotiators at the United Nations Climate Conference have begun working on a solution to limit global warming below 2 degrees Celsius.

“What we should be doing here is providing some wind at the back of not only our president, but of all the leaders of the world who are gathering to try to figure out how to deal with this challenge”, Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Jim McGovern said on the House floor. And yet, he said, “I actually think we’re going to solve this problem”.

While some are still skeptical, evidence supporting the reality of climate change is mounting.

Obama has warned the global warming poses an imminent threat to humanity.. Xi Jinping stated that “Developed countries should honor their commitment of mobilizing US$100 billion each year from 2020 and provide stronger financial support to developing countries afterwards”. Global warming results in the expansion of the deserts, reduction of arable land, and scarcity of water and other natural resources, which fuels armed conflicts and growing migration. The GOP is looking to block the funds the administration needs to fulfill its obligations under any negotiated climate deal.

Doctors, Craig D. Idso, Robert M. Carter, and S. Fred Singer – three prominent climate scientists affiliated with the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change – write: “This claim is not only false, but its presence in the debate is an insult to science”.

Hollande also said that finance needed to be cleared for technology transfer, enabling the developing nations to have easier and cheaper access to clean energy. The agreement, he said must protect the interests of millions of people in India, and ensure “adequate affordable energy” to increase the quality of life, especially of communities such as farmers and fishermen, who live by the coast.
