Obama ‘deeply disturbed’ by video of police shooting of black teen
Another video at the scene did not start recording until it was near an ambulance, the paper said.

Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke has been charged with first-degree murder.
One thing that all of the videos lack: working audio.
“It takes a while to get a life back on track”, said Thomas Gattuso, the principal at the alternative high school that McDonald was attending.
The march will be the latest demonstration in the city since Tuesday, when officials released dashcam video that shows 17-year-old Laquan McDonald being shot 16 times and prosecutors charged Officer Jason Van Dyke with first-degree murder.
Mr Obama said he is asking Americans to “keep those who’ve suffered tragic loss in our thoughts and prayers” this Thanksgiving “and to be thankful for the overwhelming majority of men and women in uniform who protect our communities with honour”.
“I understand that people will be upset and will want to protest when they see this video, but i would like to echo the comments of the McDonald family”, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said at the Tuesday evening press conference. Our officers uphold that commitment with honor, and we will have the appropriate resources to support peaceful demonstrations, ” the CPD said in a statement.
Video from Van Dyke’s patrol auto – one of the four new tapes – showed the cop chasing McDonald, who police said was armed with a knife and attempting to break into cars. He heads toward some police cars with flashing lights, then veers away. Then he appears to spin around and falls, after being struck by a barrage of bullets.
Van Dyke – who was denied bond on Tuesday – was the only officer to open fire. “This was originally presented as an act of self-defense”, an attorney for McDonald’s family told CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront”.
Herbert said the video was not an indicator of his client’s guilt.
Rep. Bobby Rush, a Democratic lawmaker from the city’s South Side, told USA TODAY that the video followed along a disturbing path of police misconduct he’s witnessed over the years. “It distorts images. So what appears to be clear on a video sometimes is not always that clear”, he said.
Others say the teen was never a danger to the officers.
McDonald’s death came at a time of intense national debate over police use of deadly force, especially against minorities. According to the autopsy report, McDonald was shot 16 times.
“It looks pretty simple: The man was down on the ground (and) shots were fired into him”.
Police have said McDonald refused their orders to drop the knife and walked away from them.
The Chicago Urban League called on the Justice Department to conduct a broad investigation into the police department, similar to the agency’s investigation of the police department in Ferguson, Missouri, after the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, last year.
Demonstrators also took to the streets Wednesday night in New York City, following a recent incident in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in which five people were shot during a protest conducted by the group Black Lives Matter near a police station.

Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez said Tuesday she’d hoped to make a joint announcement with federal authorities about charges against Van Dyke but chose to charge him earlier in the hopes of calming what she knew would be an angry response to the video.
