Obama delivers Oval Office address on terror threat
Obama has also been accused of downplaying the threat from the group for political reasons. “It is this type of attack that we saw at Fort Hood in 2009, in Chattanooga earlier this year, and now in San Bernardino”. Speaking from a podium, the president said the United States will prevail against ISIS by “being strong and smart”. The White House has made repeated pleas to Congress seeking clarity for the legal justification for action. “US is working with friends and allies to disrupt ISIL operations, funding”. The U.S. has increased its bombing of Islamic State oil infrastructure and will continue to train and equip moderate rebels in Iraq and Syria.

Obama outlined the steps the government is taking to keep America safe and urged American’s not to give into fear.
In his Saturday radio address, Obama said “it is entirely possible” that the attackers in California “were radicalized” to commit the attack, a long-standing fear of law enforcement officials.
The road remains closed near the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, on December 3, 2015.
New polling shows Americans have record low confidence in Mr. Obama’s ability to handle the problem, with about two-thirds saying he lacks an effective strategy for defeating the Islamic State. “And they account for a tiny fraction of a more than a billion Muslims around the world, including millions of patriotic Muslim-Americans who reject their hateful ideology”, he said.
However, the shooting in San Bernardino, as well as a number of deadly mass shootings in the US this year, have also reignited calls for tougher gun control measures.
President Barack Obama sought to soothe a nation shaken by the terrorist attack in a California town with assurances that the U.S.is hardening its defenses that were tempered by an acknowledgment that the threat to the country is ever-evolving.
“Congress should act to make sure no one on a no- fly list is able to buy a gun”. She suggested he might reiterate his call for stricter gun laws. Gun rights advocates oppose the no-fly list proposal because they say it violates the rights of people who haven’t been convicted of a crime.
He said the USA should beef up airline security by increasing the number of agents in overseas airports, bolstering standards for visa-waiver programs and improving communications between officials and Muslim communities to help locate threats.
The address was created to reassure Americans about the rising threat from terrorism and essentially argued for staying the course.
“We know that the killers in San Bernardino used military-style assault weapons – weapons of war – to kill as many people as they could”. He says there’s also no evidence they were part of a broader network in the U.S.
