Obama Dismisses Calls for US Ground Troops to Fight ISIS in Syria
The former director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) said on Sunday that President Barack Obama’s “law enforcement” approach to fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is “ridiculous”.

Rather than casting about for a new strategy, Obama said US would intensify its current campaign of airstrikes and arming and training moderate forces.
According to the President, there have been 8,000 airstrikes on ISIS leaders, militants, facilities that the group controls and operates from and goods.
“We also have to remember that many of these refugees are victims of terrorism themselves”, Obama said.
Republican lawmakers said Obama’s comments on ISIS lacked force, and they said beyond his insistence on not bringing in more ground troops, he appears to lack an overall strategy to fight the terrorist organization. “We can retake territory and as long as we keep our troops there we can hold it. But that does not solve the underlying problem of eliminating the dynamics that are producing these kinds of violent, extremist groups”, Obama said.
The meeting was “constructive”, Putin’s spokesman said Monday, but did not mark a turning point in strained bilateral relations.
He has called for increasing the number special ops forces – fewer than 50 have been deployed to Syria to advise and assist in combating ISIS. He has come under criticism for saying in an interview aired Friday, shortly before the Paris attacks, that ISIS is “contained” and hasn’t gained ground in Iraq and Syria. Total there were 129 deaths and many more injured after bomber detonated and shots were fired into crowds at restaurants and concert halls.
Obama criticised as “shameful” the idea that Christian refugees should be given preference by the United States in decisions over admitting people fleeing violence in Syria. By doing so, we can destroy a major source of the funding for ISIS’ bloody rampage. He said that they present them in a way that implies a false level of strength, which he would not do. State governments are now trying to limit access for immigrants because investigations have found that terrorists took advantage of the immigration wave from the Syrian refugee crisis to travel throughout Europe (namely France and Greece) to plant this weekend’s attack. “It is good to remember that the United States does not have a religious test, and we are a nation of many peoples of different faiths”. “We’re going to continue to pursue the strategy that offers the best chance of working”.
“We have to look at ISIS as a leading threat of an worldwide terror network-it can not be contained; it must be defeated”, Clinton said during the Democratic debate Saturday night.
“It is not just my view, but the view of my closest military and civilian advisers, that [boots on the ground] would be a mistake”, the United States president added. The officials said it was “a lot” of ammunition, but did not give specifics. You should know that we will find you and we will not let you go. “It’s time the president stopped hedging and took meaningful steps to defend us and our allies”, Romney wrote in an op-ed for The Washington Post.
