– After months of secrecy and anticipation, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is thrilling fans and theater owners alike.

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now in theatres. And that’s only considering the 4,134 screens it premiered on in North America.

Disney bought George Lucas’ Lucasfilm for $US4 billion ($5.5 billion) in 2012. Critics have hailed it as a fan-friendly return to form for the franchise; the American Film Institute listed it among its top 10 films of the year.

That strong word of mouth will help “The Force Awakens” attract the kind of repeat viewings that made James Cameron’s “Avatar” and “Titanic” the highest grossing films of all time.

It seems, the Force is all around us-on the news, at the stores, and on Twitter.
