Obama forced to go it alone on gun control

I hope that the President’s message challenges my Republican colleagues to join the CBC in these efforts.

Of the candidates who are still considered in the top tier, former Florida governor Jeb Bush, Ohio governor John Kasich, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, and New Jersey governor Chris Christie have each found ways to prominently tout their Second Amendment bona fides. It showed that two-thirds of our crime guns come from states with weak gun laws. In the prime-time debate, Cruz bragged about leading the fight against legislation that would have required universal background checks on gun purchases. I have vetoed a reduction this clip size.

As political theater, it put Donald Trump’s rantings in the shade. “And the last line standing between them and our families might be us and a gun”. Without hesitation, Trump replied, “No”. The spots don’t mention specific gun-control measures, but they do direct viewers to the Web site of Everytown for Gun Safety, the advocacy organization funded by Michael Bloomberg, which is working on a variety of reforms. They get-they steal them. That’s not true: Dozens of mass shooters bought their weapons at gun stores. That’s a lesson companies learned 16 years ago, when Smith & Wesson cut a deal with the Clinton administration to accept a series of gun controls, including development of smart gun technology. Rubio went further, suggesting that Americans should arm themselves against terrorists. “We’ve been frustrated by the fact that Congress has not done anything on this”. Terror attacks have rocked cities large and small, ranging from Paris to San Bernardino, California.

President Obama has recently been pushing for a policy change to toughen up gun laws in the US. I am convinced that this president, if he could get rid of the Second Amendment, he would. In 2008, the Supreme Court affirmed that it protects the right to own a handgun and to possess a rifle or shotgun without a trigger lock.

“That will never happen when I am president of the United States”.

As the details of these proposals are released, my colleagues and I will work to ensure that mandates that strip Second Amendment rights away from law-abiding Americans are not implemented.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in 2012, the ATF received more than 3,700 cases in which a gun was sold to someone it shouldn’t have been because of the background check delay. The president responded to Corban by pointing out that where she could take a gun was a state issue, not a federal one, while addressing her other point as well. “You know why? Because criminals don’t buy their guns at a gun show”.

She cited this research from the Journal of the American Medical Association to back up that claim. She said it is not only an opportunity to make money but it also allows them to play an important role in dealing with a significant social issue. At that point, another candidate, Carly Fiorina, incredulously retorted: “And we all believe the polling data all the time, don’t we?”

Obama, frustrated with inaction from lawmakers, ordered stricter gun rules last week that he can impose without Congress’ help, angering Republicans who say he is overstepping the boundaries of his office. “Yes, I did”, replied Huckabee. Again, the crowd applauded.
