Obama offers condolences to French president after Nice attack
The Islamic State group carried out the November 2015 attacks, sending a group of largely French-speaking men to strike at France’s national stadium, bars and cafes and the Bataclan concert venue.

Stephane Erbs said he was heading back to his vehicle with his wife, Rachel, and their two children when he saw the truck bearing down on them.
There were approximately 30 000 people on the Promenade des Anglais at the time of the attack, of whom many were tourists and children.
It’s being reported that the app has suffered a “technical issue” by Anaêlle Grondin, a journalist for Les Echos, who received information relating to the apps delay from a government source.
This was apparent in the recent killings of two French police officials – a couple with a young son – who were stabbed by a neighbor who had pledged allegiance to Islamic State on Facebook.
Lucas Nolan is a Journalism and Media student at Dublin Business School and a regular contributor to Breitbart Tech.
The BBC reports that the truck traveled more than a mile through the crowd, with eyewitnesses saying it “swerved and zigzagged” as it went. Police found one pistol and various fake weapons in his truck.
The truck surged through an intersection into screaming crowds, where Gutjahr could hear the final confrontation involving 15 to 20 seconds of gunfire.
Police shot and killed the driver, who drove at high speed for over 100 metres (yards) along the famed Promenade des Anglais seafront before hitting the mass of spectators, regional sub-prefect Sebastien Humbert told France Info radio.
“As far as I’m concerned, I demand answers, and not the usual stuff”, Estrosi said on BFM TV on Friday morning, questioning whether the government had provided enough national police officers for the fireworks display.
France will begin a three-day period of mourning on Saturday.
“It’s nearly unthinkable that that could happen”, he said.
Relatives and neighbours in Bouhlel’s home town of Msaken outside the coast city of Sousse said he was sporty and had shown no sign of being radicalised, including when he last returned for the wedding of a sister four years ago.
France will once again fly its flags at half-staff to mourn the victims of a deadly terrorist attack on its soil.
Obama said the terror attacks are a threat to all.
Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said the refrigerated truck was rented in the outskirts of Nice on July 11. Assailants are bringing chaos into the heart of the European Union, claiming their acts are to seek revenge for the coalition vow to destroy Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. Police soon moved in and took down the driver, he said.
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday sent a cable of condolences to French President Francois Hollande on the victims of the terrorist attack, “expressing his strong condemnation of this brutal crime that left dozens of innocents killed and injured and has nothing to do with the Islamic faith and contradicts with all the heavenly religions and human values”, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) said.
Meanwhile, Marine Le Pen of the National Front has said she will run for office.
She said she was sickened by the events along the road that was so special to her and so many others.
“Nice is a small, calm, lovely little city”, she says.
“This was an individual who apparently was not known as radicalized”, he said.
The man – who was shot dead by police after killing 84 people and injuring scores more – has been named locally as Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel. They also seized other papers and Bouhlel’s cellphone as they investigate whether he is tied to accomplices or any terrorist group, Molins said.

Investigators are looking into how Bouhlel acquired the cache of weapons. “And we will continue to promote political opportunity and democracy so citizens have a say in their future”, he said.
