Obama Said Kaepernick Is ‘Exercising His Constitutional Right’
On Monday, President Barack Obama commented on Kaepernick’s stance at the G20 Summit.

‘There’s a long history of sports figures doing so, I think there are a lot of ways you can do it.
On Sunday, Megan Rapinoe, a star on the US women’s national soccer team, took a knee during the national anthem before a match between the Seattle Reign and Chicago Red Bulls in support of Kaepernick.
So again I haven’t been paying close attention to it, but you’ve heard me talk about in the past the need for us to have an active citizenry.
Obama said that Kaepernick’s decision to sit out the national anthem before games was “messy” but that it was “the way democracy works”.
With the argument against Kaepernick supported by many who also question if Obama is anti-America, the president’s support likely won’t change many opinions. Kaepernick’s national anthem protest aside, he’ll be background noise unless Gabbert falters with a rough opening schedule.
Yesterday, the Santa Clara Police Officers Association (SCPOA) sent a letter to the 49ers organization requesting that they take action against their employee, Colin Kaepernick, for his recent statements and behavior towards police officers. “And if nothing else, he’s generated some conversation around some topics that need to be talked about”.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said one week ago that “maybe [Kaepernick] should find a country that works better for him” and angry fans have posted videos of themselves burning Kaepernick jerseys and other memorabilia on social media.
Those against the protest have called him anti-American, but Kaepernick feels differently. “That’s insane. Someone that’s holding a curling iron has more education and more training than people who have a gun and are going out on the streets to protect us”. Since that time, Kaepernick has kneeled during the Star-Spangled Banner, and a handful of other National Football League players have joined him.
USA women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe knelt during the national anthem Sunday night before the Seattle Reign’s game against the Chicago Red Stars, calling it “a little nod” to Kaepernick. “I’ve never seen a more non-American POTUS in my lifetime”, wrote Twitter user Wayne Allison, using the acronym of President of the United States. Team officials say they stand behind the quarterback and his right not to participate.
