Despite the US media’s blackout of Obama’s role in Brexit, GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump was quick to blame the President’s meddling.

British voters delivered a stinging rebuke to Obama on Thursday when they opted to leave the European Union by a 52 percent to 48 percent margin.
As well as the global economic consequences, Brexit makes it more hard for Obama and the United States to corral its Western allies into joint action against challenges such as Islamic State, Russia and the rise of China.

Obama, who had argued passionately against Britain leaving the European Union in a trip to the country this year, vowed that Washington would still maintain both its “special relationship” with London and close ties to Brussels. “The UK is an indispensable ally of the United States, and that special relationship is unaffected by this vote”. “We have to change it to make it more human and more just, but Europe is our home, it’s our future”, Renzi said in a tweet. “We will always do our best to take care of our people and do the right thing during times of change”.
Donald Trump welcomed the United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union, calling it Friday a declaration of independence and likening it to the opportunity Americans will have in November to vote for him. “We would have preferred a different outcome. but the United States has a long-standing friendship with the United Kingdom and that very special bond will endure”, he said in a speech in Dublin.
“We must maintain our trans-Atlantic consensus on how to deal with a resurgent Russian Federation and the growing threat of ISIS”, he said.
Mark Dorsett, Caterpillar’s United Kingdom director, said the heavy equipment manufacturer wants to see the British government and its European partners “make all efforts to move forward swiftly to negotiate a new settlement”. Why’s that risky for the U.S.?
The British vote was marked by debate on some of the populist themes driving the Trump campaign, such as concerns about immigration and border security.
As presumptive Republican nominee Trump praised the Brexit vote in an appearance in Scotland, investors grappled with the possibility that he could prevail over presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Obama traveled to London in April at the request of Cameron, whom he calls a friend, exhorting Britons to stay in the European Union, an unusual intervention that was denounced as meddling by those in the “leave” campaign. In affairs both of security and economics, Britain is an essential partner and liaison to Europe for the U.S., Obama said then, suggesting that status would be diminished upon a withdrawal from the union.
