Obama says United States governors’ refusal of refugees ‘hysterical’

The governor’s press office declined to give any more specifics on the new position, or explain how it differs from officials already at the state’s resettlement program. Ed Burke, a member of the Chicago City Council, said Wednesday during a City Council meeting.

In the last 14 months, Texas has taken in more than 200 Syrian refugees.

At the same time, US intelligence officials believe the risk of Islamic terrorists using the refugee crisis to infiltrate the USA and carry out a terrorist attack is low, according to intelligence briefings reviewed by NBC News.

Refugees of all nationalities, including Syrians and Iraqis, now undergo the most rigorous and thorough security screening of anyone allowed into the United States, “all aimed at ensuring that those admitted do not pose a threat to our country”, the statement said.

Danielle Drake with Us Together says refugees trying to resettle in the U.S. must pass a 13-step process including a State Department background check and an in-person interview with the Department of Homeland Security. President Barack Obama has said the USA would accept an additional 10,000 Syrian refugees in the 2016 fiscal year.

While the vote sends a clear message to Rauner, the practical implications are less clear.

Obama and administration officials have lambasted Republicans, saying they are equating refugees with terrorists.

“There a few Syrian refugees that are scheduled to be coming from what I’ve heard, but I have not heard anything that’s indicating that’s going to be stopping”.

“People understand the plight of those fleeing the Middle East. But they also want basic assurances for the safety of this country”, said Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican.

Speaking while on a trip in the Philippines, Mr Obama said that this kind of rhetoric played into the hands of Islamic State and said “it needs to stop”. Still, Obama acknowledged that the USA public was concerned about attacks on the homeland, noting that Paris “reminds us of home”.

“We are not well served when in response to a terrorist attack we descend into fear and panic”. They say they’ve tried to strike a balance in the bill, noting it would not limit refugees based on their religion. (Christians would still be allowed.) Chris Christie, prodded by a conservative radio host, said he would not even accept Syrian orphans under the age of 5.

The current acceptance rate for Syrians is around 50 percent. But others have taken it a step further.

The refugee program is managed by the federal government, as is immigration policy.
