Obama seeks national effort to end mass shooting
That accusation hurt, given that I have dealt reasonably successfully with the English language for eight decades, but I swallowed my pride and waited to learn what President Obama really meant. His administration is reconsidering a major gun control proposal that would establish new guidelines for who is legally defined as a licensed gun dealer and therefore required to conduct background checks on potential buyers, administration officials told NBC News Friday.

“The president is here for the families”, she said.
DAVID MUIR: And with the campus shootings, the backdrop of President Obama’s visit to Oregon to console families of the victims after that bad college shooting just last week.
“He’s not wanted here”.
Many residents in the mostly conservative community were angered by the President’s comments made within hours of the 1 October shooting.
Does anyone think that in the pandemonium of a mass shooting, with multiple armed people panicked and pointing guns, that fewer people will be killed? For starters, all guns should be registered and their histories recorded the way vehicles are.
“The fact that the college didn’t permit guards to carry guns, there was no one there to stop this man”, said Craig Schlesinger, pastor at the Garden Valley Church.
Nine other people were wounded.
“I don’t think we pose any threat to the school”, manager Rachel Dresser said. “The fact of the matter is that Obama is a Democrat and Republicans control the House and the Senate”. Others held signs welcoming the president.
One of the most vocal anti-gun advocates is Britain’s own Piers Morgan, who campaigned vigorously for better firearm regulation while he was hosting a nightly news show in the US.
Obama was already scheduled to go to the West Coast trip when the shooting occurred, and the White House adjusted his schedule to include Roseburg.

The White House had said that Obama was to meet privately with families of the victims but was not expected to make any statements about gun control.
“But I’m not sure if that’s the case”, said the 64-year-old. “Each time this happens, I am going to say we can actually do something about it”, said Obama after the shooting.
Local newspaper publisher David Jaques also denounced the visit, saying Obama was not “welcome here to grandstand for political purposes”. In spite of the killings here, that remains an unpopular position in this part of Oregon. Barely a third of the county voted for him in the last election.
“People in our community are grieving and hurting and they’re in a lot of pain”, she said. Kennedy said. He lost the Oregon primary the next day and was fatally shot in Los Angeles less than two weeks later.
Billie McMillian, a business owner from Eagle Point who attended the protest with her husband, said they came to support the families of the victims and because they didn’t agree with the president.
