Obama targets gun lobby

He took questions for more than an hour on CNN, a high-profile push to lower the number of people killed by guns nationwide every year, which he says is more than 30,000.

“It continues to haunt me, it was one of the worst days of my presidency”, Obama said on CNN.

Mr. Obama also addressed the issue of gun violence in a New York Times op-ed Thursday. A CNN/ORC poll released last month found 48 percent of Americans support stricter gun laws, and 51 percent opposed.

Even while bashing his opponents, Obama tried to relate to lawful gun-owners, citing his time as a senator from IL, where hunting is popular in the southern part of the state.

“It’s true: None of the president’s orders would have stopped any of the recent mass shootings”, the organization tweeted.

Taya Kyle, the widow of “American Sniper” Chris Kyle, disputed Obama’s repeated claim that increased gun control would prevent violence, saying the administration’s measures provide a “false sense of hope”.

“There’s a reason why the NRA’s not here”. But it is gun-rights extremists who have thumbed their noses at local control by opposing efforts of cities to establish their own rules on guns. Obama was then asked by Cooper about many on the far right who believe he is attempting to take all guns away from the American people.

Senior presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett said Mr. Obama wants to “begin a conversation with a broader range of people who may disagree or agree with him”. “They’re not going to just because of this executive action”. I respect the right to bear arms. George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia will host the town hall. Obama has announced executive actions that would reinforce the background check system, and tighten other gun regulation measures.

The National Rifle Association, the nation’s most powerful gun lobby, declined an invitation to the event, calling it “a public relations spectacle orchestrated by the White House”.

While complete details on Obama’s initiatives are not yet available, the president provided sufficient information to see the focus and impact of each.

“What President Obama is planning to do will not work you are penalizing the good guys”, said Rep. Roger Williams, Texas Republican, on CNN.

Democratic and Republican members of Congress had been deadlocked on legislation that accomplishes what Obama’s executive actions do.
