On the topic of peace talks with the Palestinians, Netanyahu said that Israel “will never give up”, on the prospect of peace.
In his United Nations speech on Tuesday, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was barely mentioned.
Israel has demanded tighter security measures from the Palestinians and a crackdown on militants responsible for a string of stabbings and shootings against Israelis in recent months.
The attacks included one on Monday in which a Palestinian stabbed two Israeli police officers outside Jerusalem’s Old City, leaving one in serious condition and another moderately wounded. “Our hope is that we can continue to be an effective partner with Israel in finding a path to peace”. Earlier this year, for example, the White House learned from news reports that the Israeli leader had cancelled a visit and made little effort to hide its annoyance. He could issue a set of “parameters”, similar to those laid out by President Clinton in 2000.
While there is some concern in the Israeli government over what President Obama might say or do after the election, most Israeli analysts say they do not believe it will happen.
Mr. Netanyahu thanked the president for “the extensive security and intelligence cooperation between our two countries”, which includes a new 10-year military aid package worth $38 billion, the largest deal ever by the U.S.

The American Jewish Committee in a statement also released September 15 wrote, “What could have been a powerful plea for peacemaking turned reflexively to a familiar and factually feeble denunciation of Israel from two groups with a long history of anti-Israel bias”.
