Obama to GOP: Do as I say, not as I did

A total of 19 Justice have been appointed during presidential election years by 13 standing presidents – almost 1/3 of the 40 presidents who have been presented with the opportunity to nominate justices. Obama added that he’s confident in his nomination for Garland as he sees Garland to be eminently qualified for the position in Supreme Court Justice. During the vetting process nominees are judged based on their previous court decisions, as well as their personal back ground.

“The American people may well elect a president who decides to nominate Judge Garland for Senate consideration”, McConnell said. “We have a long way to go where we are a significant force in the political arena”, said Rangaswami, who had organised the first-ever Indian-American presidential inaugural ball after Obama was sworn-in for the second term in 2013. He says if Hillary Clinton wins in November, some republican senators might change their tone.

“I’m willing to consider what he wants to do”, Grassley said about taking Garland’s phone call. Garland, 63, is now chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

In a speech in the White House Rose Garden, Obama praised Garland, a graduate of Harvard and Harvard Law School and an appointee of president Bill Clinton as “one of America sharpest legal minds”.

Garland began the customary meetings with senators that kick off the confirmation process.

“He made a very moderate nomination, this isn’t someone at all far to the left”, associate professor of constitutional democracy in the James Madison College Benjamin Kleinerman said.

“Republicans are backing down so quickly that they’re already bargaining about what month they will fully cave and confirm Judge Garland”, Reid said Wednesday in a statement. When it comes to our nation’s highest court the American people are entitled to justice instead of party politics & temper tantrums from politicians who’d rather let the next president fill the seat.

Utah’s Orrin Hatch and Arizona’s Jeff Flake, Republican members of the Judiciary Committee that would hold any confirmation hearings, said it was possible the Senate could act on Garland’s nomination in a “lame-duck” session after the election and before a new president and Congress take office in January. But that was before the announcement of Garland, a federal appeals court judge who is widely respected on both sides of the political aisle.

The White House says that after a two-week Senate recess, Garland will meet with the Judiciary Committee chairman, Republican Chuck Grassley of Iowa.

Confirming Garland could be a tough proposition.
