An editorial headline in the Baton Rouge Advocate last week read: “Our Views: Vacation or not, a hurting Louisiana needs you now, President Obama”.

“It doesn’t mean jump on Air Force One and go to every disaster”, Brown told Fox Business Network, according to ABC News.

The White House says Obama is willing to assume criticism about “optics” as long as the federal response is up to par. The floods have killed at least 13 people and damaged more than 60,000 homes.

After a relaxing holiday spent golfing, going to the beach and tucking into a stack of page-turning books, the president is returning to a to-do list that includes overseeing flood recovery, tackling Zika virus and boosting Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The visit was well-received by local officials, and for a moment it gave Trump a chance to reveal a presidential timber that he insists he has.

Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat who took office this year, said he suggested to Obama and presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett that they delay a trip to Louisiana until the initial disaster response was over and recovery efforts had started.

Late Sunday, The Obama travelled to Washington by the president’s plane Air Force One landing at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland at around 8 pm for short flight via Marine that would move him back to White House within no time.

“I am committed to visiting communities affected by these floods at a time when the presence of a political campaign will not disrupt the response to discuss how we can and will rebuild together.” said Mrs. Clinton in a prepared statement.

Obama’s vacation ended Sunday, and the White House has maintained that he has been regularly briefed by senior staff on the situation on the ground and top administration officials also were sent to the Louisiana.

Despite the criticism about the timing of Obama’s visit, Earnest said FEMA had received bipartisan praise for its work in the aftermath of the flooding, unlike the criticism the agency faced following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 under then-President George W. Bush.

“I think the effectiveness of the response thus far speaks for itself”, Earnest said.
