President Obama will visit Louisiana on Tuesday in the wake of severe flooding in the state, the White House has announced. Obama’s vacation is due to end on Sunday.
Obama opted to stay on Martha’s Vineyard, an island off the coast of MA, for the second of two weeks of vacation with his family as he did two years ago, when riots erupted in Ferguson, Missouri, during his annual trip.
The president discussed the flooding on Friday morning with Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, who visited the affected region the day before, the White House said in an e-mailed statement announcing the August 23 trip.
Trump’s new campaign manager Kellyanne Conway suggested that Trump’s visit was part of a larger effort, like his speech on Thursday, to pivot to a more presidential phase.
“Sometimes, presidential visits can get in the way of emergency response, doing more harm than good”. So, even when the rain doesn’t sit over us like this did, even when it rains in Minnesota or Arkansas, we get the water. “It’s past time for the president to pay a personal visit, showing his solidarity with suffering Americans”.
The Republican candidate for the U.S. presidential election Donald Trump on Friday visited Louisiana, devastated by floods last weekend, despite warning from the state governor to politicians to not go to the affected areas by the flood.
During his visit, Trump criticized the president for failing to visit the state, and took a swipe at his golf game.
Earlier this week, President Obama declared much of Louisiana to be a federal disaster, which freed up federal services and financial help.
Edwards has said that he would prefer the president wait a few weeks before visiting, as the huge presidential security undertaking involved would interfere with recovery efforts. The newspaper noted that Obama interrupted his two-week vacation on Martha’s Vineyard earlier this week to attend a fundraiser for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on the MA island.
This natural disaster deserves attention, and calls for federal aid have been met by President Barack Obama.
“Our own dear president is too busy at Martha’s Vineyard to visit us”, West said as she picked up a box of donated toiletries from a Samaritan’s Purse truck.
“We’re talking about an bad lot of people, which is why we are trying to turn on the assistance as soon as possible”, Edwards said at a news conference on Friday afternoon, offering details on temporary housing.
Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton issued a statement Friday on the Louisiana flooding and the flood relief effort on her Facebook page. The very best way this team can help is to make sure Louisianans have the resources they need.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards’ office had said Trump had not called to discuss plans for his visit, but said the NY businessman was welcome to volunteer or make a sizable donation toward helping victims. “He will never be under par”.
