Leaders of the Black Lives Matter protest movement condemned the Dallas violence, but vowed to uphold planned weekend marches.
Williams says two of Taylor’s sons became separated from their mother in the chaotic aftermath. One said, “Sadly, this week the fragility of human life has been reinforced to all Americans through tragic events in Baton Rouge, St. Paul + Dallas”, while another read, “Our works need to be directed toward the peace, healing and reconciliation that will overcome divisiveness and violence in our country”. Other officers and at least one civilian were wounded. The Dallas Morning News reports he served with the department for 14 years. The shootings happened Thursday night in downtown Dallas.

The suspect described his motive during negotiations and said he acted alone and was not affiliated with any groups, Brown said.
But he also acknowledged, more expansively than he has before, the view of law enforcement in such moments. It came amid protests over two recent fatal police shootings of black men.
Brown says authorities are not certain all suspects have been located. Footage from broadcasters showed the massive crowd facing off with dozens of police vehicles that were stopped on a local interstate highway. Police and others hunched behind cars outside a parking garage. He was the first officer killed in the line of duty since Dallas Area Rapid Transit formed a police department in 1989, DART said on its website.
The gunman, who killed five police officers and turned a peaceful demonstration into a scene of bloodshed, told authorities he was angry about the recent killings of black men at the hands of law enforcement.
DART officer Misty McBride was one of the injured.
The gunfire broke out around 8:45 p.m. Thursday.
