Obama: Trump’s NATO Comments Show ‘Lack of Preparedness’

If he becomes president, the retreat of USA influence for which Republicans now hold Mr. Obama culpable will likely turn into a rout.

Paul, who ran for president in 1988 on the Libertarian Party ticket and then as a Republican in 2008 and 2012, spoke with RT’s Manila Chan on Friday, the day following Trump’s big speech at the Republican National Convention. “Two world wars have shown that peace in Europe is also important for the security of the United States”. “The United States has always stood by its European allies”.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in Washington in April that concerns about the USA reducing its commitment to NATO have been around for decades and yet NATO has endured.

“Since its creation in 1949, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has done more to promote democracy, peace, and security in Europe than any other multilateral organization, including the European Union”, Kochis writes. “It complicates US diplomacy on non-security issues”. US presidents can not just shoot their mouths off; when they speak to their domestic audiences, the world is listening. The Obama administration issued a swift rebuke, assuring allies that the USA pledge to the alliance is “ironclad”.

“We will meet the return of Russian belligerence with the same resolve that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union”, it says. “As usual, the United States has been picking up the cost”. But the governor offered no sense of what Russia’s resurgence meant or why it was bad for the United States.

While some of his criticisms of Middle East policy under president Barack Obama echo sentiments among leaders in the Gulf, any points Mr Trump may have scored will have been critically undermined by his lack of detail and unpredictability as well as the underlying message of retreat.

In other words, not necessarily.

Unlike past Republican presidents – Reagan or both Bushes – there was no appeal to moral leadership or spreading freedom and democracy around the world.

Dr. Soren Fanning, an associate professor of History at Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania, argues that Trump is part of the answer.

Asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” about WTO rules that would be violated by his threats to slap tariffs on US companies that move operations overseas, Trump said he may leave the organization rather than back down. Fanning wrote in an email.

In Russia, Trump’s comments met with approval.

In his first wide-ranging interview since he was crowned the Republican Party’s White House nominee, the billionaire and political novice spelled out his stance on a slew of foreign policy, global trade and national security issues. But one result is that because Washington pays the piper, it calls the tune.

A fast-paced Russian mobilisation would have “potentially devastating implications for eastern Poland and fatal consequences to the Alliance”. He, too, had an opinion on why Russian Federation drew little attention. She is the author of Fractured States and U.S. Foreign Policy.

Paul said Cruz was pursuing his own “self interest”, like all politicians, when he refused to endorse Trump in a speech at the Republican National Convention, in which he was almost booed off stage. “I am willing to kind of chalk it up to a rookie mistake”, he tweeted.

Though U.S. administrations have for decades complained that Europe is getting a free ride, Trump’s comments were a repudiation of Article 5, the heart of the alliance, that an attack on one is considered an attack on all. Please see our terms of service for more information.

“He throws a bone to the anti-NATO interventionist group, saying if they don’t pay their way, we’re not going to do it”. They pander to the majority populations within their borders.

Yet apart from a brief mention of Trump’s “inflammatory remarks” on the campaign trail, just about the most critical remark in Xinhua was that the candidate “failed to provide any detailed policies to explain how he would manage to realize all his promises”.

For one thing, Putin is someone who doesnt worry about little things like worldwide law when he decides to invade a country.

This has been an unusual political year in the United States. If Trump is elected, worldwide instability seems likely to increase.
