The move follows an appeal from President Barak Obama, who called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday and urged him “to take additional steps to de-escalate tensions with Iraq”.

Turkey has acknowledged a “miscommunication” with Iraq over its deployment of troops to the Bashiqa military base in northern Iraq, Turkey’s foreign ministry said on Saturday.
Earlier this month, Turkey deployed about 150 troops and 25 tanks to a base in the Iraqi Nineveh province, without Baghdad’s approval.
He also urged Turkey “to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq”. Jaafari stated that the request for council action was a last resort.
They agreed that Turkey, the USA and Iraq should cooperate to fight against Daesh in the region. Baghdad labelled the deployment an incursion, but Turkey said it was to protect Turkish trainers working with Iraqi forces battling Isis.
Turkey began partially withdrawing troops from the area on Monday.
Ankara has said the deployment of the force protection unit was due to heightened security risks near the camp, which is close to the Islamic State-held Iraqi city of Mosul.
“From the outset, we tried to resolve this matter through bilateral channels because taking this issue to various global platforms would serve no other goal than to undermine the solidarity of the worldwide community against Daesh”, Çevik told the Security Council. That is why we see the United States at the same time actually intensifying its presence on the Iraqi soil through the so-called Special Forces.
“If the Iraqi government claims that it has full sovereignty over all its territory, then it is our right to expect that it prevents the use of Iraqi soil for terrorist attacks against our own territory”.
