Obama vows action against Turkey coup plotters
On Sunday, Erdogan said that “post-coup evidence” indicating Gulen orchestrated the plot from afar is being amassed and will be submitted to USA authorities.

Mr Obama, speaking on the sidelines of the G20 summit in China, said the United States and Russia still have “grave differences” about what is needed to end Syria’s civil war and which opposition groups are legitimate targets for the U.S. and Russian forces. Referring to shouting matches and confrontations between Chinese and US officials upon his arrival at the G-20, Mr. Obama said that he “wouldn’t over crank the significance of it”.
Obama at the G20 summit in China praised Turkey, saying the Turkish people “affirmed their commitment to democracy”. Turkey opposes USA support of Kurdish fighters that it considers to be terrorists. Under Erdogan, Turkey is increasingly distancing itself from the U.S.
Mr. Obama, who is relying on Mr. Erdogan’s cooperation in fighting the Islamic State in Syria, said Turkey has gone through “a tumultuous event”.
Though negotiators have been hopeful a deal could come together while world leaders are gathered in Hangzhou for the G20, that optimism has been tempered by the failure of previous ceasefire deals to hold.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said U.S and Turkey must adopt a common attitude against terrorism.
Duterte said Obama should not question him about extrajudicial killings, or, as he put it, “son of a bitch, I will swear at you” when they meet in Laos.
Obama also thanked Erdogan for Turkey’s “exceptional humanitarian support” for refugees. On Friday, Turkish authorities fired 76 judges as part of an ongoing government purge.
The dispute has soured public perceptions of the United States in Turkey and risks undermininga deep security relationship.
The arrested man is an Erdogan supporter and he is suspected of having threatened Gulen backers online and in person, a Dutch official said on condition of anonymity.
Turkey, a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally of the United States, is a major member of a USA -led coalition against the Islamic State group.
“Obama is still much more respected in Ankara” than other senior US officials, said Merve Tahiroglu, a research associate focusing on Turkey at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

On Saturday night, Erdogan held his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin since ties between Moscow and Ankara entered a new phase following the August 9 meeting in St. Petersburg.
