Obama Yosemite Vacation Gets VR Treatment From Nat Geo

“The VR experience provides a personal look at President Obama’s trip to Yosemite with his family over Father’s Day weekend”, Oculus said in a blog post on Friday. The Obama trip is being touted as the first virtual reality video experience to include a sitting USA president.

President Obama’s conversation with Bacon spanned a range of subjects, including climate change, conservation and the cultural value of the national parks, which Obama describes as “America’s best idea”. In one scene, we see the President interacting with children as paparazzi surround them with camera. At the same time, it would be naive to expect companies like Facebook to do nothing to advertise the concept of virtual reality.

President obama can make anything look fun.

Here’s one more thing for President Obama to cross off his in-office bucket list: Obama just became the first sitting US president to appear in a virtual reality (VR) experience.

The two parts of the following sentence might seem unrelated, but stick with us for a second: In the wake of the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, President Barack Obama has made his debut in virtual reality. The video isn’t a traditional documentary; the producers and the White House worked on the script together. “We love compelling, immersive VR experiences that transport people to places they never dreamed possible – like exploring Yosemite with the President of the United States”, said Colum Slevin, Head of Experiences, Oculus. You have to get someone to find a video (or game), download it, pull out their VR headset, strap the phone in (or turn on their computer and VR headset), and experience whatever you were shared. It’s been teased since June, but it’s now available on Gear VR and Facebook’s 360-degree video platform, where it can be watched without a VR headset; an Oculus Rift version is coming soon. That’s because the agents were instructed to hide behind trees in the park, a White House official told ABC News.
