Have you been jonesing to get your hands on the long-awaited Oculus Rift?
Oculus recently sent out an email to developers creating software for the company’s upcoming virtual reality headset, stating that the SDK 1.0 version of the Oculus Rift is set to be sent out soon. We’re just a few months away from a near-guaranteed launch date of real, first-generation, commercial VR hardware.
Oculus on Monday announced it has started shipping out SDK 1.0, as well as early builds of the final Rift hardware, to developers working on launch titles for the device. Perhaps more importantly, the company said it has completed version 1.0 of its Rift SDK which is essentially a gold master.
The shipping of these early builds, plus the launch of v1. VR developers interested in taking advantage of this offer should submit their VR apps through the standard Oculus dev portal, and Oculus will “be in touch with next steps”. As such, they’re now limiting the release to developers that are putting the finishing touches on launch titles.
“Thrilled to share some news: Manufacturing continues to go well, and we are still on-target for an awesome Rift launch in Q1!”
