Just over three years ago, Palmer Luckey started a new business called Oculus with the mission that it would bring affordable virtual reality to the masses. Every Rift will come with a copy of Lucky’s Tale, a VR platformer, but only preorders will get a copy of EVE: Valkyrie, a first-person space combat game frequently used to showcase VR. But the whole package will include the Rift headset, an Oculus Remote, Xbox One controller, two virtual reality games and all the necessary cables. The virtual reality headset would be carrying a price tag of $599, which is much higher than what the rumors were stating but, all things considered, should not be seen surprising. The likes of Russian Federation and South Korea are also still waiting on news as to when the Oculus Rift will hit their countries.

Oculus offers a selection of Oculus-ready PCs on its site, which are in the neighborhood of $1,000 each. High end VR is expensive, but Rift is obscenely cheap for what it is.

The tech, which is now available for pre-order, was priced at £499 ($599). Base hardware requirements include a NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD 290 graphics processor, an Intel i5-4590 processor, and 8GB of RAM. Luckey has said that VR will have a revolutionary impact on the way we communicate and consume entertainment. This week our Reader Discussion is surrounding the controversial subject of Virtual Reality.
