Oculus Pushes Back Touch Controller Launch To Second Half Of 2016

“We’ve decided that we need more time before release”, Oculus VR, the Facebook subsidiary, said in a blog post Thursday. Google likely won’t launch a Rift-like headset anytime soon, but upgrading its ecosystem to deliver VR content could help it stay ahead of the tech curve and enhance its appeal with marketers.
We were impressed with the Touch when we got hands on it at Oculus Connect 2 in September, but Oculus VP of Product Nate Mitchell acknowledged that a lot of work remained before it would be ready for the public.
Spearheading the push for VR headsets over the past few years has been the Oculus Rift, due to arrive during the first three months of the year.
The Oculus team is also ramping up pre-production units of Touch hardware so that more developers can integrate the peripheral into their applications and games. It is implementing changes that make Touch more “comfortable, reliable, natural” as well as changes that improve hand-pose recognition.

With CES 2016 due in a matter of days, it is speculated that the full specifications of the Oculus Rift along with the release date and price will be announced there.
One of the VR gear coming out would be the Oculus’ Rift. “Once you have your hands involved, you really need tracking to be absolutely flawless, accurate, and low latency, or you’re going to feel like your hands are dead”. According to Paul Bettner, founder and CEO of Playful, a gaming company, Oculus Rift will ship out with Lucky’s Tale.

When it comes to control, Oculus has been making its own pair of light, handheld controllers called Oculus Touch, in an effort to make the VR experience all the more intuitive.
