Oculus Rift delays flatten virtual-reality fan fervor
On Friday, May 6 at 9 a.m. PST, players and enthusiasts alike will be granted access to purchase Oculus Rift from online retailers like Amazon and Microsoft. Today the Facebook-owned company is taking an important step towards reaching the masses with the announcement that Oculus Rift headsets will be available in 48 Best Buy stores around the country later this week.

If you do go for the second option, Oculus says they will still honour the pre-order bonuses such as the EVE: Valkyrie founders pack, and priority status for pre-ordering the Touch controller.
So if you have a Rift pre-order, you’ve got two choices.
Select locations will be getting a demo-able version of the Oculus Rift come May 7, courtesy of the store’s Intel Experience display. So why is Oculus VR about to start selling the units outright?
This news comes after many Oculus Rift customers began complaining about delayed shipments on headsets they preordered. In case the pre-order customers decide to opt for the latter, they can and all they have to do is get in contact with the team of Oculus to get their pre-order cancelled.
“For many, this is a first chance to jump into truly immersive VR”, said the “Oculus Team” in a press release.

This might leave many preorder customers scratching their heads, but for those waiting for preorders to ship, this could mean they can finally get the Rift – something they already paid for – in their hands sooner. Oculus has stated that a component shortage is the reason behind the delays. Oculus is planning to open things up a little more this summer, when it will start bringing the Rift to more locations, including stores in Canada and Europe.
