Oculus Rift preorder customers are facing months-long delays

Many customers who have pre-ordered the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset will have to wait some time before getting their hands on the device. And Oculus promised all those who had pre-ordered Oculus Rift headsets free shipping in order to make up for the delay. We’ve been working through an unexpected component shortage, and unfortunately, that issue has impacted the original shipping estimates for some early customers. New orders placed as of this writing are still appearing with an August ship date, but whether the company can meet this is anyone’s guess. People ask when the Oculus Rift will ship to South Korea and how to use it and exchange opinions on whether the Rift is reasonably priced.

We’ve reached out to Oculus for additional comment, but the company may not offer any insight beyond emails to customers. If anything, it seems that two months have been added to the waiting time before shipment of the Oculus Rift VR headset. The company has “taken steps to address the component shortage” and they’ve also increased manufacturing capacity to attempt to speed up the shipment process.

Just over two weeks ago, Oculus finally began shipping its long-awaited virtual reality headset, the Rift, with 30 games available at launch, and the promise of over a hundred more this year.

While delayed pre-orders are never a good thing, Oculus is hardly the first hardware maker to deal with post-launch supply issues. What was previously expected to arrive on March 28 has now been pushed to somewhere around late May or June, Road to VR reported.

If you are affected by the delays I hope you get some more helpful information through soon, but if you are not, enjoy ignoring everyone with your new VR device.

“If these problems persist, HTC Vive will be the victor”, Gownder said. You may recall that, earlier this month, Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey spoke up about the initial delays, saying that he did not plan on giving any further details until he had all of the facts lined up.
