Oculus Rift Shipping Pushed Back to April in Less Than 30 Minutes

The Oculus Rift is officially up for pre-sale starting today, and we now have a few details we didn’t have before. That high price point will limit the possible audience, but presumably it will become more affordable over time.

Oculus offers a selection of Oculus-ready PCs on its site, which are in the neighborhood of $1,000 each.

In a subsequent post on the firm’s blog, Oculus says that shipping will begin on March 28th. Last year, it was heard that just 1 percent of the PCs globally can run VR headsets for delivering optimal experience.

The Oculus Rift is a head-mounted virtual reality display that allows users to experience virtual reality through programs and games developed for the Rift.

All pre-order will include a spot on the pre-order list for the Oculus Touch controller to be released in the latter part of 2016. Three and-a-half years later in 2016, the long-awaited Oculus Rift headsets will be available for pre-order on Wednesday at an undisclosed price.

While the Rift is blazing new trails in how we will play video games in the future, the price comes as a bit of a surprise. As a small token of our appreciation for your support, all Kickstarter backers who pledged for a Rift development kit will get a free Kickstarter Edition Oculus Rift!

The Rift headset will come will an Xbox controller to manipulate virtual environments, two games, a carrying case and a stand that also tracks the headset in 3D space.
