The company has previously said that the Rift could cost between $200-$400, and that it would be “at least $300”.
Earlier today, Oculus, developer of the headset, has made the Oculus Rift VR headset available for pre-order, and has also revealed more information on the headset’s release.
However, initial orders will not come with the system’s Touch controllers after the company chose to redesign them, containing an Xbox One wireless controller instead. the new models will become available in the second half of the year, Oculus said in a blog post. The release of the headset should also please Facebook, which bought Oculus VR in 2014 for $2 billion.
Oculus founder Palmer Luckey tweeted, confirming the news; “Preorders for Rift are live”. The device is expected to ship March 2016. Virtual reality is a big theme at this year’s convention, with Oculus, Sony, Samsung and HTC showcasing its virtual reality headsets. Pre-orders will come with an additional free game, EVE: Valkyrie.
