Odd even make a comeback for fifteen days in Delhi

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi unit president Satish Upadhyay on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, following a video clip that showed his minister’s involvement in a bribe demand.

On Thursday, Mr Kejriwal said public consultations held on the internet, through phone responses and town-hall community meetings had revealed a massive support for the plan with 81% respondents in favour of continuing it.

According to reports, the second phase is likely to be introduced in April as school examinations will be underway in March. People were give a structured questionnaire by the government on whether the scheme should be implemented again, if yes, when it should be done and for what duration among others. Therefore, we have pushed the dates to April 15, instead of February 14 or March 1, which was initially proposed.

He said he was mulling making the odd-even licence plate scheme permanent, although not “until the public transport system has been made better”. “When I speak up [against the Centre], people say I am fighting with the Centre”.

Trucks coming from outside the national capital will now only be allowed to enter Delhi from 11pm onwards against the existing 9.30pm limit, officials said. “By May this year, we will get 1,000 more buses, By August, we will get 1,000 more buses and by December we will get 1,000 more”. This will replace Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). Women continue to be exempted.

He said government received feedback from people through e-mails, missed calls, interactive voice response (IVRS) and submission of online forms.

“Around 28,300 suggestions have been received through online forms while another 9,000 and 1,82,808 have come through emails and missed called respectively”.
