Odd, even number vehicles to ply in Delhi on alternate days
In what is considered to be a controversial move, the Delhi government has suggested that private vehicles with odd and even registration numbers should be kept off the Delhi roads on alternate days. “We are going to ask people their suggestions about this and after that it will be taken forward” said Arvind kejriwal while speaking at Hindustan Time leadership Summit in Delhi.

“Particularly in winter, when the pollution is high, we will implement for some time odd and even number vehicles operation”, he told reporters after an emergency meeting of the state government to discuss the crisis.
Rao further said the Delhi Government should have a road map before implementing such a measure without causing serious discomfort to the people.
On December 4, the AAP government had come out with a plan of restricting private vehicles bearing odd and even registration numbers to alternate days from January 1 in the national capital.
Besides, grass will be grown on the roadsides, he added.
Talking about initiatives taken by his government yesterday to tackle pollution, Kejriwal said vacuum cleaning on all PWD roads will begin from April 1 and grass will be planted on side kerbs and central verges of all the arterial roads to remove dust.
The Congress Party on Saturday said that Kejriwal has ruined the Delhi Transport system and was behaving like the Turkic conqueror Muhammad bin Tughluq, who looted and plundered many Indian kingdoms.
India has said poor countries can not be expected to make the shift away from cheap and abundant fossil fuels at the expense of struggling populations, many of whom do not even have access to electricity.
“I think the decision taken by the Delhi Government was not taken with due consideration of all implementation issues”.
Odd even number plate system will first be a trial for 10-15 days, if found comfortable for the public, then only it will be done permanent with some principles.
To compensate for the restriction, the transport department would run extra buses. Besides, the government will shut down south Delhi’s coal-based Badarpur power plant, one of the coal-based plants of the NTPC.
“The Swachh Delhi App has received 50,000 complaints, of which 42,000 have been addressed”.
The air quality worsened sevenfold between October and November, according to a study by the Center for Science and Environment in New Delhi, which showed that 3 percent of days in October had severe air quality but jumped to 73 percent of days in November.
