A traffic policeman issues a challan to BJP MP Vijay Goel for violating the odd-even rule.
Odd-even scheme was implemented in Delhi three days back by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today saw the real test as there was heavy traffic during morning office hours. BJP parliamentarian Vijay Goel, who flouted it to protest against what he said was “needless expenditure” on its promotion, was among 710 motorists fined on the day.
In his petition, while referring to an IIT Roorkee study, Pandey has claimed that no significant change in air quality was registered during the first phase of the scheme which was in force between January 1 and 15.
The scheme, which began on 15 April, will continue till the month end. 18 cabs from Ola and Uber were seized yesterday, “he further said”.
However, Delhi Transport Minister Rai was happy with the progress of the odd-even.
The rules, whose violation attract a penalty of Rs 2,000 under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, are applicable between 8am and 8pm, except on Sundays.
Rai said the Delhi Transport Corp (DTC) on Monday made a profit of Rs. 22 lakh as compared to the previous Monday.
Taking strong exception to the use of public money on advertisements in the name of Odd-Even initiative, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday dubbed the move initiated by the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government as a drama and publicity stunt. “It’s not about vote bank as people cutting across classes and religion voted for us and gave us 67 seats”, he said.
