“There’s a message being sent out to the world where people are giving opinions that are plain wrong”, said Emilio Estefan. “We need to lift up our pride and show the world what we’re doing”.

The title of the song, “We’re all Mexican” is intended as a metaphor symbolizing that we can all become the victims of racism and bigotry at any moment as Mexicans are experiencing in recent times.

“It’s about the American dream, not changing your name, not changing your sound, ” Estefan said.

The racist and xenophobic statements against Mexicans served as an inspiration for Estefan’s creation of the anthem, which celebrates the contributions of Hispanic immigrants to the United States.

The video was published to Estefan’s Youtube channel Sunday.

Also featured in the video are various Latino celebrities like Thalía, Gloria Estefan, Pitbull, Perez Hilton, Carlos Santana, Luis Coronel, Eva Longoria and Banda El Recodo, as well as a few non-Latinos like Whoopi Goldberg, Kathy Griffin and rapper Wyclef, who raps in the song along with reggaeton artist Wisin.

Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Emilio Estefan is the creative brain behind the project, which also features the talents of more than two dozen performers from diverse backgrounds-showing that it’s not just folks of Mexican descent who are standing up against prejudice.

He lamented the fact that Mexicans are being “vilified” by “some communications media (and) political leaders”, as well as a portion of the public.

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from mid-September to mid-October.

The montage video and song “We Are All Mexican” gathers 34 Latino performers with the aim of responding to the attack rhetoric against immigrants used by Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump, who recently called Mexican immigrants “criminals” and “rapists”.
