Fourth-placed City have a game in hand following the postponement of their Premier League fixture against Newcastle United courtesy of the League Cup final, but Van Gaal was delighted to close the gap nonetheless.

Marcus Rashford is a “modest guy” who can deal with his status as Manchester United’s surprise package, says manager Louis van Gaal. We have a small selection [of players to pick from], so it’s hard and I can not rotate too much.

“We know that a few weeks ago we weren’t playing so well and losing matches we shouldn’t have lost”.

“I think always the number one has the biggest chance, and that is Leicester – you can see for yourself”, Van Gaal added.

“It wasn’t our best game, the first-half especially we were poor but we probably deserved a draw at the end of that match”, Catchcart told watfordfc.com.

Ander Herrera believes Manchester United’s timely four-match winning run has made “everything” possible.

“But it also means it’s a full programme”. Swansea’s Paloschi scored his first Premier League goal.

The display against Watford had been a slog until Juan Mata’s clever free kick settled the game late on.

“Manchester United have had a lot of injuries, a very hard period for them, and this is the moment when the younger players use the opportunity to establish themselves in the team”.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s match against Watford at Old Trafford, Van Gaal asked for the media to show restraint on the inevitable clamour surrounding the youngster.

“When you see the size of the players of Watford and our size, we are not in a beneficial situation, so I have to give compliments to my players”.

The hosts would begin to probe as the second half wore on and Mata fizzed a shot into the gloves of Gomes and sent another effort wide of the mark soon afterwards, but another Blind blunder nearly let in Nordin Amrabat, who just failed to turn the ball home, with Prodl then heading wide a corner from Ben Watson. Dean however got an wonderful front row view of Van Gaal’s theatrics. I’ve known him since he was 14, when I was training the teenagers of Real Madrid.
