Four of their six remaining opponents have a losing record. But these 13 games against 3 first place clubs, will either be what pushes them into October, or sinks their season. “It’s hard to work and perform like that”, Gomez told MLB.com of facing the Astros, with whom he spent two seasons.

WACO, Texas (AP) – Seth Russell threw four touchdown passes in less than a half and Number 23 Baylor beat FCS team Northwestern State 55-7 Friday night in its first game since the sudden dismissal of coach Art Briles.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Alex Bregman had a homer and a triple when he stepped to the plate as the potential go-ahead run after Houston trailed by seven just two innings earlier. He gave up six runs in the frame before being pulled, including homers from Carlos Beltran and Rougned Odor.

Odor called off right fielder Nomar Mazara, who dropped an Altuve popup in the Astros’ three-run seventh. The Rangers then had to hang on as the Astros rallied late and had the tying run at the plate in the eighth inning.

Gomez opened the fourth with a walk against Doug Fister (12-10) and was at second as Mitch Moreland followed with as single.

The Andrus double gave the Rangers the lead for good but they were far from done.

It was a situation where Andrus has bunted in the past, but he was allowed to swing away from the No. 9 spot in the order.

Odor tied a career high with five RBIs and Adrian Beltre and Ryan Rua also homered as the Rangers tied their season high with five homers. “It’s baseball. We’re focused on the next pitch and we’ll be ready to play tomorrow”.

– Sticking with the theme, Reds speedster Billy Hamilton has seven games with at least three stolen bases this season.

“I like our approach against a starter”, Banister said.

Texas even has an outside shot of winning 100 games this year with 81 wins now, Texas would need to go 19-8 the remainder of the season to win 100 for the first time in team history. Besides veteran leadership, Houston is going to need their youth to rise to the occassion if they want to taste October.
